At the Trevor Noah-hosted show, Zara was up for Best Dance Pop Recording. Lady Gaga ultimately took home the award, which was announced during the pre-show, with Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco, Tate McRae and PinkPantheress rounding out the category.
And for the “Look What You’ve Done” singer, being celebrated among her peers is nothing short of a dream come true—a dream dating all the way back to her giving Grammys speeches in front of her mirror growing up.
“That’s why I feel calm,” Zara noted, “because I’m just so happy to be here. And if it’s not happening this year, it’s gonna happen the next. And if it’s not the next, it’s gonna happen the year after that.”
“I just love to make music, and I love to sing, so this is really what I love,” she continued. “And all of this amazing, glamorous extra stuff is just the cherry on the cake.”
As for her younger self, Zara predicted, “She’ll be very, very proud. I would like to tell her that everything happens when it’s supposed to happen. And right now, I just feel really grounded and at a point where I can really take it all in and have a good time.”
