But even before the awards were handed out, history was made nearly three months ago when the nominations for this year’s Grammys were announced on Nov. 7. Kendrick became the first rapper to receive five Album of the Year nominations as a lead artist, as well as the first solo artist ever to be nominated for the award with five consecutive studio albums, with GNX. 

Meanwhile, Rosé‘s nominations in the Record of the Year and Song of the Year categories for her Bruno Mars‘ collab “APT.” landed her in the history books as the first K-pop artist to receive a nomination in the Grammys’ big four categories.

And following in the footsteps of Gaga’s unprecedented sweep in 2019, Timothée Chalamet—whose work in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown landed him a Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media nomination—now holds the record as the first man to be up for a prize at the Grammys, the Golden Globes, the Actor Awards (formerly known as the SAG Awards) and the Oscars during a single awards season.
