Fernando Mendoza isn’t interested in fumbling his list of goals.
After all, he has his eyes on football. Days after the Indiana University quarterback led his team to win their championship game against the Miami Hurricanes on Jan. 19, an interview showing how he’s prioritizing his love for the sport over romance has resurfaced on social media.
“At this point, I’ve gotta limit all distractions, especially with the girls. It can be very distracting,” Fernando told football content creator Tony Banz in July 2024, when he was playing for the UC Berkeley Bears. “You might find your first love in college, but I’m going to give everything my all. So if I have a girlfriend, I’m going to give her my all.”
While a sweet declaration, the 22-year-old—who transferred to the Indiana Hoosiers five months after the interview—noted his training schedule would have to change to make room for his future partner.
