Duck Dynasty’s John Godwin Shares His Twin Grandkids Were Hospitalized After Birth
John Godwin‘s dynasty has expanded.
The Duck Dynasty alum’s daughter Johanna Mata recently welcomed twin daughters Cassandra and Isabella with her husband Cecilio Mata—though the birth didn’t go quite as expected.
“They’re here too early,” John shared on the Jan. 1 episode of the Duck Call Room podcast, explaining how the baby girls arrived weeks before their due date. “Still in the NICU.”
The ordeal began mid-December, when John and his wife Paula Archer Godwin received a call from Johanna that she was in the hospital. Due to Johanna’s high blood pressure at the time, doctors had placed her on a 24-hour watch for preeclampsia, a pregnancy condition that can lead to serious and fatal complications.
“She said, “Y’all need to get up here,'” John recalled. “‘They fixing to have y’all grandkids.'”
Johanna gave birth to Cassandra on Dec. 19 at 9:24 a.m., while Isabella arrived “a few minutes later,” she shared in a recent Instagram post. The babies came in weighing in at 5 pounds, 6 ounces and 4 pounds, 11 ounces, respectively.
